Therapeutic Massage Kathy Chism, NCTMB

About Your Session...

Before you receive your massage, it is a good idea not to eat any large or heavy meals, sugar, caffeine, or other stimulants.  You may also want to shower or bathe directly before your session, not only out of courtesy to your therapist, but also to help start loosening any tight muscles that you may have.

Kathy will email you her medical intake form prior to your session.  Please print it out, fill it out, and bring it with you to your appointment.  She will go over this form with you prior to your bodywork, so please add an extra 15 - 30 minutes of time to your initial appointment for this, as well as for getting on and off the table.

(Please do not arrive early for your session.  The outer door for the massage studio is always locked, and there is no interior waiting area.  To accommodate scheduling, the time you are given is the exact time to come to the door and ring the doorbell.  Thank you.)

Your session will be administered in a very peaceful and soothing environment.  Please be sure to turn off your cell phone or any other equipment that may disrupt the session.

You will lie down on a comfortably padded massage table.  Kathy will take a moment to explain the process, ensure that you are properly positioned, are properly draped, and that you are comfortable.  Be sure to inform her if anything distracts from your comfort, such as the room temperature, volume of music being played, lighting, etc.  This is your time, and your comfort is paramount.

As your session begins, close your eyes and allow yourself to relax as completely as possible. Focus your attention on your breathing, which should be slow, deep, and even.  Allow Kathy to move your limbs into various positions.  Try to go limp, like a rag doll.  You do not need to help, and your massage is far more therapeutic if you can simply relax.

Many people fall asleep during their session, an indication that their bodies are letting go of stress and tension.  Should you fall asleep, Kathy will gently wake you when it is time to reposition or end the session.  Feel free to nap!

Contrary to common notions in our society, massage therapy is a healing art and not a sexual service.  Any illicit or sexually suggestive remarks or advances will result in the immediate termination of your session.

After your massage, unless you have a condition that would prohibit it, you will want to drink extra water for the following 48 - 72 hours to help flush out the toxins gently released by your session.  You are welcome to bring a metal or glass container for Kathy to fill with purified and filtered water for after your massage.

Be sure to ask Kathy any questions you may have about massage therapy in general or your session in particular.

Enjoy!
